Corps Crafts New Lenses
Improved Military Eye Protection System Protects on Two Levels
The new and improved eye protection system keeps the eyes safe while providing an element of style. The new military eye protection system looks good without sacrificing protection.
Two different types of eyewear – goggles and spectacles – are available for use in different threat environments. The new "portholes" even have grooves that hold prescription eye inserts. Inserts can be ordered through unit aid stations.

The system is made with polycarbonate lenses that are thicker than the previous versions. The goggles provide a higher level of protection with less comfort compared to the spectacles. The spectacles are lighter and more comfortable, but offer less protection.
The goggles will be better for protection against sand and wind. They also can withstand a hit with twice the energy than the spectacles.
The spectacles offer half the level of ballistic protection – five square foot-pounds of force – of the goggles. However, the spectacles are more comfortable for every-day use and their design allows unrestriced airflow on both sides of the lens making them less likely to fog.
Both versions of the eyewear are being fielded Corpswide and Marines can acquire these new goggles through their consolidated issue facility.
