Rounds Down Range at the Push of a Button

Trigger fire might be a thing of the past with a new remote controlled system for the M-240G machine gun and M-80A2 Special Application Scope Rifle.

The Telepresent Rapid Aiming Platform is a remote controlled aiming platform operated by a remote hand-held device. The system gives Marines the ability to take cover while operating the weapon through remote control.

The system is connected to an aiming platform by a 20- to 100-meter long cable that allows the gunner to operate the weapon while in a covered and concealed position.

The system doesn't lose any range, rate of fire and accuracy while deployed, and the platform allows a 360-degree horizontal range of motion and 70 degrees of elevation.

The weapon is aimed through an optic display provided by a bore-sighted aiming camera mounted alongside the weapon on the platform. The system is also equipped with a wide-angle search camera with 40X zoom, thermal imaging and night vision capabilities.

The system was recently field tested by 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment in Iraq during support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The system is still in the testing phase.
